Molly is our daughter forever!!! Her adoption was finalized in court today.

Baptism
Yesterday was Molly's Baptism and it was such a lovely day. Sometimes I find it hard to slow down and enjoy these special days with all the planning and organizing - plus getting everyone dressed and out the door on time. It was a little easier this time since the party was at a restaurant instead of our house. I was full of joy holding my sweet daughter on her big day as she entered the Church!
We had about 30 friends join us and it was so wonderful to celebrate with them. Molly's godfather is my brother and her godmother is our dear friend who watches both kids two mornings a week. She has become like family to us here, since our families live so far away. The priest is also a friend of ours who was a big help to us during Molly's adoption. He used to be at our parish but now runs the Catholic Center at the University of Maryland.
The Baptism ceremony is short and sweet, but so powerful. I love all the blessings with the oils - there is nothing like the smell of chrism! She slept through the first half but of course woke up when the water was poured over her head. Thankfully she didn't seem to mind it too much and was happily awake for the second half.
My hubby said a few words at the end which was really sweet. I got all emotional when he was talking. He shared our good news about Molly's adoption being finalized on Thursday. He also explained the significance of the Baptismal gown - it's been in his family for a long time and many babies in the past four generations have worn it. His grandmother (who is still living at 95 years of age and is also named Mary Margaret!) was the first to wear it and it was made by her grandmother. My hubby wore it, as did his father, uncles, cousins, etc. And of course Tommy wore it two years ago. :)
After the Baptism we went to a French cafe/restaurant nearby for a simple reception. We had some delicious food and celebrated this special day for our sweet little girl.

I included a sweet prayer card with a picture of the Blessed Mother on the front and the Memorare of St. Bernard on the back. Molly's birthday is August 20 - the feast of St. Bernard. :)

Quick Takes
1. This morning I had both kids in their carseats ready to go when my car wouldn't start. And of course it was cold - around 45 degrees - brrr! I was so surprised - my car isn't very old and has never given me any trouble. I'm so grateful that we were in the driveway and not somewhere else. AAA was able to replace the battery on the spot. I'm sure it was overpriced, but so worth it to just stay home while he fixed my car!
2. Yesterday I made it to Mass at my parish with both kids for the first time by myself. I was expecting the usual 9:00am daily Mass crowd, but it turned out that the entire school was attending. It was really sweet to see the all of the students - especially since the 4th grade class was dressed in saints costumes and did all of the readings. Unfortunately Mass was much longer than I expected. I figured I could handle 30-40 minutes with two kids, but this Mass lasted over an hour. Thankfully Molly slept in my arms as I chased Tommy around. Just when I thought it was over the priest interviewed every student who was dressed in costume about their saint's life story. I was exhausted when I got home. :)
3. Thankfully Hurricane Sandy didn't hit our area as badly as expected and we didn't lose power. This seems like a miracle to me considering how often we lose power during other storms. My husband was off of work for two days since the federal government was closed and even the metro was closed for two days. Unfortunately my hubby's parents had to cancel their trip. I know they are so sad to reschedule their visit because they are dying to meet Molly and now will have to wait until Christmas.
4. We ended up canceling most of our Halloween plans because of the storms, so Tommy didn't go trick-or-treating this year. Thankfully he is too young to know the difference, although I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to it. :( He went last year and had so much fun, even though he didn't really understand what he was doing. 5. One week from today my brother and sister-in-law will be here and I'm so excited! They are coming for Molly's Baptism and my brother is going to be her Godfather. I'm so grateful they are traveling all the way from California for this special occasion - especially since they can only stay for a long weekend. It will be so wonderful to introduce Molly and spend some time with them.
6. I'm very excited about Molly's Baptism as well. I can't believe it's just a week away! We are having a small reception afterwards at a restaurant near by. I'm working on some cute favors and a few simple decorations. It will be so wonderful to celebrate our sweet little girl on her special day.
7. I'm so glad it's Friday. We have been doing pizza/movie night every Friday since we got married and I still love it. Happy Friday everyone!
