Buddies

Tommy has spent time with some of his buddies lately. Yesterday we got together with Call Me Mama and her sweet little boy Issac! It was so wonderful to meet this little miracle baby.

You can see here that Isaac gave me a sweet smile - and I'm trying to show Tommy how to be "gentle" with the baby. (Thanks S for the picture!)

We try to get together with Tommy's pal Lucas regularly. I hardly ever remember to snap a picture, so I'm glad his mommy sent this one to me. We love having playdates!

And Tommy's favorite buddy of all is his Daddy.

We had a wonderful and relaxing Father's Day this past weekend. We spent some time hiking around Great Falls - we are so lucky to have such a gorgeous National Park so close to our house. Tommy doesn't quite realize it yet, but he has the best dad in the world! My hubby is the sweetest and most generous man. He works hard to provide for our family. I love watching him be a father, and I know that he truly enjoys being a dad - my favorite sounds in the world are listening to him play with Tommy or read to him. I know they will continue to have so much fun as he gets older.

Thank you Lord for blessing us with such an amazing husband and father.

Burst

I read this book last week and I highly recommend it!

It's a great story about the author's life - including many trials and crosses - and how his faith was strengthened through it all, by the grace of God. In addition to other topics, he discusses infertility, adoption and Lourdes - so you know why I felt a strong connection to the book.

I also happen to know the author, Kevin. We've never met in person, but a mutual priest friend put us in touch a couple of years ago when my husband and I first began pursuing adoption. It was the summer of 2008 and we had no clue where to begin - we didn't know anyone else who had gone through the adoption process (at least in recent years and/or in our area.) I emailed back and forth with Kevin and his wife. They were extremely helpful during those early months of figuring out where to begin.

The following summer Kevin's brother Dave was a seminarian at our parish. I learned more about their family and realized they were a "famous" family in our archdiocese, so to speak. Their uncle, a Monsignor named Tommy, was murdered in his rectory in the year 2000. Even though I didn't live in the area at that time, I have heard about this amazing priest and the legacy he left behind - including many young men who entered the seminary because of his inspiration.

The book is a great read for anyone, but I really enjoyed all of the local connections. Kevin mentions people, places, churches, and retreat centers that I am very familiar with, so I loved all of the personal connections. I was in need of some good spiritual reading and his book came at a perfect time. I highly suggest that you read it!

Blogger Ladies and Babies

Tommy and I took a little daytrip to spend the afternoon with some of our favorite blogger ladies and babies! We couldn't believe it had almost been a year since we had gotten together. Where does the time go? I am so grateful for their friendship. It's been such a blessing to share adoptive motherhood with them.

It was hard to get all the kids looking and smiling at the same time, but at least they all stayed on the bench! :)

It was fun to look back at our previous pictures together on GIMH's post, so I thought I'd share this picture from last summer. So fun!

It's hard to remember when Tommy and Clara were so little!

Quick Takes

(1) Has anyone else had trouble with the "publish post" button on blogger? For a couple of weeks now it hasn't been working and I think it's a problem with my computer. I've been creating my posts online, saving them and then using my phone to publish them. So weird! I'm not sure how to solve this problem...

(2) Tommy has been on West Coast time for a week now, but I think he has finally adjusted back. It's amazing to me that he doesn't have too many problems sleeping when we're traveling, but then wakes up 1-2 times during the night once we return. Finally last night he made it through the night without waking up, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's back to normal.

(3) I've started to wean him off his bottle and I'm really dreading this process. Any suggestions? He doesn't like whole milk yet, so I'm trying to mix it with some formula. But he's also recently stopped liking his sippy cup. He's been using it for months now (to drink water) and lately he doesn't want anything to do with it. Sometimes he will drink from a regular cup if I offer it to him, but that's not a permanent solution. We've been having really hot weather this week and I want to make sure he's getting enough fluids. Any advice is appreciated!

(4) A couple of days ago Tommy started grinding his teeth. I hate it! It's the most awful sound and it makes me cringe. I'm afraid he's going to damage his teeth. I am trying to ignore it and hope that it's just a phase. He has five teeth now and he looks pretty funny because one of his top, middle teeth is still missing!

(5) Despite the insanely hot weather we've been having, I'm SO glad that summer is here. This week has been a great balance of spending time at home and getting out of the house. It's been nice to be home more because my house really needs some attention. In addition to surface cleaning, I need to do some deep cleaning, organizing and getting rid of junk. I know that I will feel so much better when this is done. I also have a long to-do list of things that have been put off including organizing pictures and making photo albums. I'm so behind! Hopefully I can start crossing a few things off my list.

(6) I'm looking forward to catching up with good friends. Next week I'm getting together with two blogger ladies that I haven't seen in almost a year! And in two weeks my best friend from CA is coming with her family to stay with us. Yay!

(7) Not sure what else to say. It's Friday Night Pizza Night in our home, so I'm already looking forward to dinner. :)

Ahhh... relaxation

After a crazy couple of months, it was wonderful to have a week of relaxation. Tommy and I spent a few days in California visiting my family. When we came back it was my hubby's birthday and we spent a nice, relaxing weekend together. I am so excited that summer is here!

Out to brunch with my family.

Pool time!

Beach time!

This picture was taken way too early in the morning... but Tommy enjoyed me playing the piano for him.

Tommy has been obsessed with flags lately - he gets really excited whenever he sees one and he loves to wave them.

On my husbands birthday we spent the afternoon at this wonderful park near our house - one side has these gorgeous gardens and the other side has a great playground including a carousel and train that takes kids through the park. So fun!
