We are having a great time so far on our vacation. This is our annual trip to Nebraska and Minnesota to spend time with my husband's family. I'm so glad we brought our computer! They have wireless access at our place (we're staying in cabins on a lake), so hopefully I can get my "fix" at least once a day. It's sad to say, but I don't like missing the blog or facebook updates!
We flew into town on Friday afternoon and spent the night catching up with my hubby's friends. We generally only get to see them once a year, so it was really great to hang out and catch up. But I'm not going to lie - this year was particularly difficult for me. There were four couples and of course we're the only ones without kids. In total there were 7 kids under the age of four and one more on the way. Our friend is expecting her third child and she's 25 years old. Ugh. Do you know how depressing that is for me? We spent about seven hours with these friends and most of that time was spent playing with the kids and/or talking about them. I had to hold back tears on more than one occasion. I texted with AYWH and LH on the drive to this dinner. It might sound silly, but it helped so much to have their long-distance support and encouragement. Even just thinking about all you bloggers out there who would be experiencing the exact same thing helps. I know that I am not crazy (for the most part) and I'm not alone.
It is just such a painful reminder to me about the passing of time. I can vividly remember experiencing these same feelings and emotions for the past three summers on this same vacation. We always spend one night catching up with his friends before road tripping to the lake in Minnesota with the family. It felt good to share our IF journey with friends and family over the past couple of years, but now it's just depressing to watch everyone else's kids getting older while we still have none.
I am praying for the strength to get through this week. Don't get me wrong, we really have so much fun on this trip. But it takes a lot for me to pull myself together and not focus on my sadness. We have the world's cutest nieces that we will get to play with this week whom we absolutely adore, in addition to some other family members' kids who are here. It's just hard to watch them all running around and playing and realize that we are so far from experiencing this ourselves.
I had a mini-breakdown during Mass last night, although I am hoping and praying that no one noticed. I don't breakdown too often, but when the tears come I really can't hold them back. There just happened to be a baptism during Mass. Go figure. And the Gospel and homily were all about the hemorrhaging woman and her healing. The priest kept talking about praying to God for what we want, but how we don't always get what we ask for. At one point he actually said, "God might not give us healing but he will make us well." I was so confused. What does that mean? He also talked about faith and miracles and which comes first. The woman's faith came first and all she had to do was touch Jesus' garment and she was healed. It left me thinking, "Is my faith not strong enough? Why have I not been healed?" It was just all too much for me to handle.
I have just started reading St. Faustina's Diary on Divine Mercy and so my prayer lately has been mercy, mercy, mercy. Literally I just repeat those three words over and over again. I'm not even than far into the Diary, but I have a feeling that it will be good for me to read. I know that I am not worthy, but I am so in need of God's mercy.
I keep trying to remind myself that while four years of marriage without kids feels like an eternity to me, it is only a blink of the eye for God. God's time is not our time. All things work for good for those who love the Lord. I am clinging to these verses, but I have to admit that it's not always easy for me.

Father's Day Dinner and Attorney
On Father's Day we went to dinner with Fr. T, my spiritual director for the past year and a half. He is moving to Austria, so this was a little good-bye dinner. We had a lovely time together! He is a Holy Cross priest and a grad student at CUA. He is currently writing his dissertation and he will be studying for a year in Innsbruck. He is soooooo super smart. I feel completely inadequate during most of our conversations, but thankfully he is a humble man.
It was interesting hanging out with a priest in public. Since it was Father's Day, we knew the restaurant would be pretty crowded, and it was. We had a reservation, but we will had to wait a bit for our table. As soon as we walked into the restaurant there were lots of stares at Fr. T. You can see in the picture that he's wearing his full habit (since it was Sunday), not just black and the collar. As soon as we sat down in the waiting area a man came up to him and awkwardly blurted out, "How do we get to heaven?" We were all taken aback... we couldn't decide if this was a parishioner from our church being funny or an angry anti-Catholic with an agenda. Turns out he was neither, but it was still a strange conversation. He was sincere with his question for Fr. T, but was somewhat argumentative in his tone. We had a good laugh over it when he left.
I had gotten a small gift for Fr. T - a book - to say thanks for all his time with me. Turns out that he too had gotten us a gift! I'm not sure why, and I felt strange accepting a gift from him. When I said, "Why did you get us a gift? You didn't have to do this!" He said, "That's what makes it a gift." :) Anyways, it is this beautiful icon of the Wedding Feast of Cana. Maybe I will take a picture and post it. It's so beautiful! I can't wait to hang it in our home.
In other news, we had to cancel our appointment with the adoption attorney tonight because of the awful Metro train crash here in DC. We live in Maryland and the crash happened on the red line. It has completely disrupted train travel (and car travel) going in that direction. I still can't believe that such a horrific accident happened on the metro. We take it all the time without considering the risks involved. I pray for the nine people who lost their lives and all the families involved. May God bring them healing and peace.
I am frustrated that we have to change our appointment because I feel like we are going nowhere with our adoption plans. But I know that rescheduling for July (after we return from vacation) won't change too much. I'm just getting very impatient over here!

Wedding and Haircut
We had a great time at my friend's wedding yesterday! It was so fun to sing for the Mass and the bride and groom couldn't have looked happier. I have become close to the bride since we have taught together for the past four years. She has patiently waited on God to provide her groom and it was such a joy to share their special day. They are a beautiful couple and a great match for one another.

I enjoyed hanging out with some of my co-workers at the wedding. We had some time to kill between the ceremony and reception, so we got drinks at an Irish Pub. It was fun!
Here is a picture of me and my hubby. It gives a pretty good idea of my haircut. Believe it or not I cut off 4 inches! Since it's straight it looks pretty long, but I'm sure that it will be much shorter when it's curly. Maybe before school starts in September I will go even shorter.

Quick Post
Seriously, you blog ladies are the best. I was so uplifted by your sweet comments to my last post! Thank you (AGAIN!) for all the support and encouragement.
My busy schedule continues... last night I rushed home after summer camp to shower and get ready for my friend's rehearsal dinner. I just love weddings, so I'm glad to be part of hers this weekend. The wedding begins at two, but since I'm singing I'll need to be there early to rehearse. I also decided to get my hair cut this morning. I am SO overdue for a cut, but I was waiting for today because I usually love how my girl straightens my hair. I can never do it the way she does! I am tempted to go short, but still not sure what I will do. I've been needing a change and feeling like I need a pick-me-up. But I know that a drastic cut during a moment of weakness isn't always the best idea!
So today will be filled with wedding festivities. Tomorrow I'm singing for two Masses in the morning and then we're having dinner with Fr. T, my spiritual director. He is moving to Austria, so this is probably the last time I'll see him. Hopefully I can find a little down time during the middle of the day. Next week it's more summer camp, but I don't mind because we leave Friday for vacation!! I'm so ready to relax and just get away.

Overwhelmed
I have been feeling really overwhelmed for the past couple of days. And it's summer! I thought that I would be feeling much more relaxed and rested, but so far I have been crazy busy and feeling completely exhausted.
The main reason for my exhaustion is that I'm working at a summer camp with 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Whew, they take up a TON of my energy! The students I teach are much older than this, so I'm not used to working with such little ones. Plus summer camp is much different from teaching. I don't have the authority or the routine to keep order with the kids. It's much more chaotic, not to mention that I have less desire to be structured with them since it's just camp. Thankfully I only have 9 kids this week and I have a helper. I will be working at this camp all summer, except for the two trips we are taking.
I have also been feeling extremely overwhelmed with our infertility and adoption plans. I feel like we are at a crossroads and I'm not sure which direction to take. And yet, at the same time, I feel as if we're stuck at this intersection without many options to move forward.
Medically speaking, I'm not sure what is next for me. I spoke with a nurse from my doctor's office on Monday and she said that Dr. L wants to see me next cycle during days 1-3. She will review my charts and discuss plans for an ultrasound series around ovulation time. I also got the results from my bloodwork on peak +12 from last cycle. Both levels were extremely low - estradiol was 68 and progesterone was 2.3. I wasn't surprised since my new cycle began the very next day. I keep hearing about all these other women taking injections and I wonder if that might help me. But of course I don't know that for sure. I'm not even sure what problem they would be addressing, it just seems like a good thing to try!
In terms of adoption I am so ready to move forward and get home-study approved, but I am completely frustrated with our options. So far we have explored three local agencies, one adoption consultant and one adoption attorney. Each option has its pros and cons and I am finding it extremely difficult to decide how to proceed. This weekend my hubby and I decided to move forward with one of the agencies. I spoke with the social worker on the phone yesterday about filling out our application and she informed me that the next training wouldn't be until March/April! (For this agency, you must attend one of their trainings to be home-study approved.) I almost cried on the phone with her when she said that. I don't want my impatience to be the driving force, but I truly cannot wait that long.
Does anyone have experience using an adoption attorney? We are going to meet with one next week to learn more about purusing an independant adoption. Apparently he will help us learn how to advertise and network for a birthmother. I find it hard to believe that that would be enough to help us find a baby. I'm really curious to hear what he has to say.
Ugh. I'm just really overwhelmed. I'm tired of waiting and I'm so tired of being stuck in this spot. I look at all the kids in my summer camp and think that I could be their mom instead of their counselor. I wish that I was at home taking care of my own kids instead of spending my days playing with someone else's kids. Some of these parents drop off their children at 7:30am and don't pick them up until 6:00pm. It's crazy! These poor kids just want to be at home.
I know that I need to spend more time in prayer. I haven't posted many spiritual reflections lately and that is a clear sign to me that I'm not being fed enough spiritually. I have been meaning to read the Diary of St. Faustina for awhile and I finally bought a copy today. I hope that reading and reflecting on Divine Mercy will help me because I know that I am in need of some serious mercy right now.

Winery
Yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon at our favorite winery - Chrysalis - in Middleburg, VA. It's only about an hours drive from our house. We absolutely love their wine and the location is really beautiful. We had set aside yesterday for a little pre-anniversary celebration since the rest of the month is going to be quite busy and our anniversary is on June 24. Here are a few pictures from our day.

You know I'm addicted to blogging when I take pictures JUST for the blog! :) But I thought you'd enjoy seeing one of my favorite items - it's a picnic backpack. As you can see, the front area holds all of our picnic supplies. The back section is insulated, so you can store your food/drinks in there. It even has a separate insulation section just for the wine - you can see it on the left. We love using it!

Girls Day Out
I had a fabulous day yesterday with AYWH and GIMH!! I'm the last to post about our day, so I apologize if you've already seen and heard about our fun day. :)
We had a lovely day together and as you can imagine, we talked non-stop. We met at the Franciscan Monastery and I was so excited to see the ladies that I couldn't stop talking! I feel bad because I'm sure they were hoping to enjoy the beauty of the monastery. Every time we stopped to admire a statue or something we would get stuck there just talking and talking. But can you really blame us?
After exploring the monastery we drove to Georgetown and had lunch at Sequoia on the Potomac River. I can't remember the last time I went out for a nice lunch in the middle of the day - so it was fun to treat ourselves. We walked along the waterfront for a bit before the ladies had to hit the road.
AYWH and GIMH are such lovely, faithful, and strong women. Their blogs have inspired me and taught me so much. They are both beautiful, sweet and encouraging. It is such a huge blessing to have them in my life! I truly don't know what I would do without our blogging community and network of women. I know for sure I would be in a much different place emotionally and spiritually. This road of infertility is so difficult, but knowing that I am not alone is a source of much comfort for me. This is why I am so excited about starting a support group here in DC.
I had so much fun just talking and hanging out with these two amazing women. I hope we get together again soon!

Support Group in DC
I've been thinking about starting an Infertility Support Group in DC for awhile now. I know that many of you ladies attend or started groups in your area. Our online community has been such a huge source of encouragement and resources for me, I would love to give that to other women who are silently suffering around here. Although I have to admit, deep down I was hoping to "leave" this club and therefore not be able to start the group. Obviously that is not the case.
Yesterday I met with the Director of Family Life for the Archdiocese. I figured that if I was going to start this thing, it would be great to have his help and to advertise with all the parishes around. He was totally on board and had some great ideas about getting started.
I made a few phone calls and sent a few emails yesterday to get the ball rolling. Hopefully soon I will confirm a date and location for our first meeting.
If you're in the DC Metro area and you'd be interested in coming, please let me know! You can comment on this post or send me an email at: jeremiahtwentynineleven@gmail.com.

Shenandoah Camping and Cycle Update
We had a great weekend camping in Shenadoah National Park! It was another great weekend away and I came home feeling refreshed. I really enjoy getting away, especially when it involves spending time in nature. Even just one or two days away makes such a difference.

We ended up leaving on Saturday morning because of all the crazy rain on Friday. After we arrived in the park and got our campsite we did a great hike. It was about 4 miles and we hiked along waterfalls and streams the entire way - it was so beautiful!

We spent the afternoon relaxing and reading at our campsite. We were distracted and entertained by all the deer that kept wandering around. There was even one baby fawn - so cute! We played cards, made dinner, had a campfire and enjoyed our time together.

Oh, and I also have to mention that we had fun people-watching. Camping provides some great opportunities for this - especially when the campsites are close together. The couple that was next to us was funny. They arrived late and were having trouble setting up their tent. I noticed at one point that they pulled out the directions. Oh yeah, and the wife was clearly pregnant. Neither of them were very small people, but the tent seemed very small to me. Once they set-up their tent and two chairs, they got into their car and drove away. I never saw them again that night! But while I was sleeping, I did hear their car arrive and leave again. In the morning, we saw them come back and get out wearing different clothes. They put away their tent and chairs and left. I am convinced that they went to dinner at the lodge and decided to sleep their instead of the tent. Too funny!
Anyways, on our way home on Sunday we stopped at a beautiful golf course and golfed 9 holes. I was so proud of myself! I wasn't fabulous by any means, but I was able to at least hit the ball in the right direction. :) And I enjoyed myself! I'm so glad that we have this hobby to share. My hubby is really patient with me and he's great at coaching me along.
In cycle news I'm on peak + 12 and I had my blood drawn this morning. I also had my blood drawn twice last week (peak +7 and peak +9) and both of these results were great. On peak +7 estradiol was 480 and progesterone was 27; and on peak +9 estradiol was 540 and progesterone was 27.9. I've been feeling some PMS symptoms so I'm sure my new cycle will start any day now. I am glad that I was able to get my blood drawn this morning and I'm curious to see what my levels were today. Especially if my new cycle does start tomorrow, I'm curious how drastically my levels dropped. Sometimes I get so caught up in getting these tests and finding out the results and other times I wonder, "What's the point?" I mean if we didn't conceive then what's the point of finding out these levels, ya know? I feel like I continue to get "good results" but no pregnancy. Ugh. So frustrating.
Today was my last full day of school - YAY! It's hard to believe that another school year is finished. Tomorrow is a half-day and Wednesday we just show up for Mass. I have a lot to get done before this week is over, but then summer will officially be here!
I'm really looking forward two special things this week. On Wednesday I have a meeting with the Director of Family Life for our diocese. I'm going to speak with him about my idea for an infertility support group. I know how helpful these groups have been for many of you, so I would love to start one for the DC area. He is very open to the idea and I would love the support of our diocese in terms of advertising with all the parishes. I can only imagine how many people out there are struggling with this alone.
And on Thursday I will be hanging out with AYWH and GIMH! I can't wait! Don't worry, I'm sure all three of us will post pictures. :)

Happy Birthday Honey!
Today is my hubby's birthday! I am trying to celebrate him and make this day special, although he is a pretty low-key kinda guy. Actually, I have to hold myself back because he really prefers I don't go overboard.
Has anyone read the book "Love Languages"? We read it while we were engaged and it really helped me understand how different people give and receive love. What works for me doesn't always work for him, so I have to remember how my hubby most feels loved. I highly recommend the book if you've never read it!
Back to the birthday... the plan was to hit golf balls at the driving range tonight and then go to dinner. But since we knew it was supposed to be cold and rainy today we went golfing last night. Tonight we will get dinner and then pack for our weekend getaway.
We will continue the birthday celebration by camping this weekend. My hubby loves to camp, so we are going to Shenandoah National Park. It is so beautiful there and I think we will have great weather. I'm really looking forward to some time outdoors.
I am so thankful for my husband. He is such an amazing human being and a wonderful husband. I am truly lucky and blessed beyond belief to have him as my partner in life. He has been my rock during this difficult road of infertility. While this has not been easy for him either, he has been the one keeping me hopeful and faithful. Even though I long so badly for children and feel incomplete without them, our life together is wonderful. I am trying to treasure this time and enjoy our little family of two. My life is so much better with him in it. I honestly can't even imagine who I would be without him.
Honey, I love you with all my heart! Happy Birthday!
